There are more than 700 carotenoids found in nature, lutein is one of them. It is a photosynthetic pigment and coexists with zeaxanthin in nature. As carotenoids cannot be synthesized by humans, whether it is lutein or zeaxanthin, they must be obtained from the diet to meet the daily recommended amount. If you cannot get enough from food alone, you need to take supplementation. The patented free form lutein and zeaxanthin used in ACTIVIZION are extracted from Marigold Flowers (Tagetes Erecta) through a patented purification process. Unlike lutein and zeaxanthin, which are generally rich in vegetables and fruits, meso-zeaxanthin is extremely scarce in food sources and content. In a clinical study published in 2012 (James Loughman., 2012), focused on 36 testing subjects with an average age of 51 years, the result showed that taking three forms (lutein + zeaxanthin + meso-zeaxanthin) together is more effective than taking only lutein with zeaxanthin.

The lutein and zeaxanthin in ACTIVIZION are in line with the diamond ratio formulation “Lutein : Zeaxanthin = 5:1” by US National Institutes of Health (NIH) five-year large-scale human study “Age-Related Eye Disease Study 2 (AREDS2)”. OPTILUT® lutein and zeaxanthin are free lutein, which is a new formulation modified based on lutein esters. Lutein esters contain fat components and has a large molecular weight, which can only be absorbed and utilized after digestion enzymes. On the other hand, since free lutein has been hydrolyzed to remove fatty acids, it does not need to go through the process of human digestion and is better absorbed by our body.
